Trax's 4th Annual 1/32 Slot Car Convention In Las
Vegas!! |
Scalextric does it vintage for 2002 in 1/32 scale with some Trans Am
series slot cars! This is due in 2002 for their slot car line-up
in 1/32 scale from Scalextric. These looks to be awesome cars.
They are only prototypes shown but they look to be awesome machines.
Let's hope they perform as well too. The Carrera 1/32 1956 Thunderbird
and 1966 Pontiac GTO should be here any time now.
What's coming for 2002? Johnny Lightning (Playing Mantis) is going to doing complete Thunderjet HO scale slots not just bodies with die-cast chassis for 2002. These will include a design similar to the "Tuff Ones" chassis. They will possibly be in the snap-display case like the old AFX Magna-Tractions used. Model Motoring will be doing their own "Tuff Ones" chassis and be carrying parts for that as well. They plan to include them under their Limited Editions. Check their site for more details. Some word from RCHTA on 1/24 - 1/25 model kits for our slot car conversions, Revell-Monogram will be doing a Ford Expedition Custom, 35th Anniversary Camaro SS, and a reissue of the 1958 Thunderbird with original parts (does this mean slot car parts to use with vintage chassis, don't know) - more details soon. These are the ones that will fit on the FCR chassis. If you are interested in the 2002 model kit releases, check out the RCHTA page at CobraDeuce for complete details. Some of you may have noticed the 1/32 Monogram 275P kit pictured, it was on the Monogram (Revell-Monogram) history wall and will not be produced for 2002. This body is available as a car from MRRC though.
New Stuff Added For Sale in the Swap Meet There's some more vintage HO slot cars for sale in the swap meet. Just added some more Tyco and Aurora AFX slot cars. Check them out!
August
Reviews - Finally the awesome new 1/32 FLY
Corvette C5R #2 2001 gets our track test.
Back to some 1/24 Projects I know I haven't kept up with the site on doing some 1/24 slot cars for your Carrera and other 1/24 home tracks so I plan on getting some more up on the site here. I have been busy and just taking a break here with the warm weather. I also have to admit that I was playing around with some 1/10 scale radio controlled vehicles but for the month of August I plan to finish off the Expedition SUV Project and start some more on the site...
It's Coming, It's Coming FLY has released their 1/32 Corvette C5-R slot car and hopefully we will be getting our review sample very shortly once the supply hits the US distributor and goes out to the various channels. From the photos, it looks to be a winner.
More "wee" HO slot cars LifeLike Racing has out some unique paint schemes in their 2001 racing sets like the flamed #24 Gordon car and the #5 Labonte. Look for more soon. Mattel (ex-Tyco) has released a new body design - the Dodge Intrepid NASCAR. I only have seen photos but it looks 100% better than LifeLike's attempt. They should be getting their supply around to the various shops shortly. Finally Model Motoring has released the last four colors for their 1967 Corvette Roadster so now you can get the rest of them.
A

the cars and various descriptions. A must have for the 1/32 slot car

The Convention at Rad Trax was a Blast!!! Too bad I couldn't make it, maybe one of these years I will make it out there with the local slot car clan :) Check out more write-ups and tons of photos from the 3rd Annual Convention on the Rad Trax site - here's a sampling:
"...By
Saturday afternoon, a motley crew was assembled for the "We Wish You Were
Here" Russell Sheldon race. (remember - us easterners were jet lagged)
There were 4 Alfa 8Cs - Russell's Marconi proxy car driven by the redoubtable
PDL, my Marconi car ( an earlier chassis) driven by Luiz Valdetaro, Rocky's
Sheldon chassis driven by Larry Shephard and my Mk II Sheldon chassis -
decorated in unfinished glass and Bondo, running sans driver (literally, and, as
you will see, figuratively as well) The field was rounded out with Len Jackson
driving a Prof. Fate Auto Union and Rocky with either his Type 159 or a W-163
Mercedes (Sorry, I'm too busy trying to surpress the results to recall) Philippe
just ran away from us completing 164 laps on the 6 lane track. Rocky and Larry
ran 116 laps, Len completed 100 and Luiz and I crashed at every opportunity
garnering 81 and 66 laps respectively. ( Since I know that Luiz is a good
driver, and the last two were cars that I had prepared, I am now discussing with
myself some aspects of set-up skills)..."
Helping People Out This was posted to the alt.hobbies.slotcars newsgroup and is just one of many people donating their time and making people happy using slot cars...."Recently, I bought three 1/32 Artin sets from JC Penney. I had one set up in my garage, when a neighbor stopped by with his handicapped son. The father (Butch) and son (Bobby) are real race fans, and both of them had a blast with the 1/32 cars. Butch had bought Bobby a HO set a few years ago, and it was just to fast for Bobby to react to. Bobby was heartbroken. Well.<snip>..long story hopefully shortened, They liked it so much they wanted me to bring it to the kids center for the rest of them to try. So last Sat (the 7th) several other retired 1:1 race drivers took the the and tables down to the center. From what the folks who run the center told us, the kids have never had this much fun. We were there from 8:30 AM till 6:30 PM. Between the six 1:1 drivers that went with me, we all are donating enough stuff, I donated a complete 4 lane set, the rest of the guys are building the table, scenery, getting race fans banners, etc to build and maintain a Artin 4 lane set for the kids. Yes, I have heard some folks say that Artin sets and cars are not good for racing, but to see the faces of these kids, the Artin set is the hot setup. To me, THIS is what slot car racing is all about. Thanks for letting me tell this story. Larry"
Slot Cars in the News I was surprised to find a one page article on slot cars in the back of the May 2001 issue of Automobile Magazine. The April 2001 issue has a nice feature on the Auto Union (Audi) 1937 Streamliner - the real one that Carrera modeled in 1/24 scale slot car form.
New Articles!!! Painting and Detailing Tips by Max Studio - Part 1 introduction and "inking" instructions plus Tips by Max Studio Section 2 - Detailing up Artin's 1/32 Porsche GT2. Thanks to Max Studio for the submissions!
Computerized Slot Car Race Management System This was posted on the slot cars newsgroup alt.hobbies.slotcars by Gregory Braun, "This article on SpeedVision's web site describes a slot car race track under full computer control. Lap counting and timing are but a few of the features. This track also has low fuel simulations, tire wear and pit stops. Very cool. http://www.speedvision.com/pub/articles/racing/08inews/010405a.html " This system looks promising and would be great for entertainment and for larger commercial venues to get people into the hobby.
Finally Some More Reviews!!! Slot Car Garage takes a look at the 1/32 Ninco VW Golf #3 Sony and the exotic Proteus Heuliez PREGUNTA. The new affordable line of electronic controllers from Professor Motor has been released and we are reviewing the 1/32 Home Set Plus Model on our Carrera 1/24 layout.
New HO Stuff LifeLike Products has some new HO slot cars on their site for 2001 including this new Skate Boarding Race Set :) They have the new 2001 Dodge Intrepid NASCAR and others in HO slots.
Half a Baker's Dozen? At one time many moons ago before the Internet, there was these paper things with words and pictures on them relating to slot cars called newsletters. For the HO crowd: HOCARS, HO-USA, Slot Car Trader, Lots of Slots For 1/24 1/32: VSRN Now with HO-USA closing it's print version, we no longer have these but HO-World - The web 'zine for HO slot car enthusiasts has been created with some of the crew from HO-USA.
More Gallery Photos: Added another section to the Enthusiasts Gallery, this time around we get some photos from Austria detailing their RaceGold chassis based cars and Carrera track in 1/24 scale.
Gone Forever: It's official - eToys has closed it's doors for good on Wednesday, March 7, 2001
New 1/32 Slot Car VW Bug color scheme from Pink-Kar:
Slot Cars in AutoWeek - In Volume 50, Issue 9 with tribute to Dale Earnhardt on the cover we find slot cars on page 30 called "Back in the Groove" about Philippe de Lespinay's own Proxy race that was held in December.
New Stuff Coming in 2001 for 1/32 Muscle Car Fans and Slot Car Enthusiasts - MRRC is going to be releasing a 1968 Camaro and Firebird from the old Revell molds with possibly their current MRRC plastic type chassis. They should be good cars and good sellers. Carrera is rumored to be doing some more muscle cars as well - more details as I find them out. EJ's Hobbies is planning some neat retro-vintage slot car kits too with old and new parts. FLY is said to be doing a Ford "European" Capri from the late 1970s :) For now I heard that some kind of GTO is coming from Carrera and possibly other color schemes. Maybe even a 1956 T-bird Roadster.
SALE! JCPenney has their 1/32 Artin 4 Lane Team Racing Set priced at only $59.99 instead of $109.99 for a limited time, great starter set for 1/32 enthusiasts...JCPenney's item number for this set is SM671-0103A
SCG Email Discussion List? I am thinking about starting a very small email discussion list for people who are into collecting and racing slot cars at home. There are lists already out there but this would mostly cover the segment of the hobby who collects or races at home. It will cover 1/24, 1/32, and HO but will not involve the commercial or raceway or vintage section of the hobby but details about racing / collecting 1/24, 1/32 and HO at home. Also, it will involve working with 1/24 scale slot car parts and model kits to create cars at home for use on Carrera track and many other things. If I do start it, it would only be on a beta or testing phase at first to see how it pans out for us all. Email me with your thoughts or ideas if you would be interested in something like this at webmaster@slotcargarage.com .
The Reviews Section has two new items added: The Ninco 1/32 Callaway C12 Corvette and the GB Track (by FLY) 1/32 Porsche 917/10 Spyder #1 Shell slot cars.
Tiger fans: No, not that Tiger - take a look at digitalFOTO for March 2001. Turn to page 12 for a photo of Slot Car Garage's Cat "Tiger" that got printed in their magazine. Update: ImagineMedia has pulled the rug out from under the subscribers to digitalFOTO magazine with no warning, etc. Why I ask? Why :(
Goodies in the Swap Meet Section: Looking for some nice 1/32 and HO slot cars to purchase? Check out the recently updated Swap Meet at Slot Car Garage for lots of cars and other items. I am always open to trades for 1/24 chassis for my model kit slot car projects to run on the Carrera 1/24 layout.
Well, eToys.com has been dumping out slot car stuff right and left along with their other items with their clearance sale going on. Most of the slot car deals are gone now but from what I heard FLY 1/32 cars were priced at $4.99 with sets going anywhere from $8 to $80 compared to $50 to $250 eToys is going downhill fast and I guess they are trying to rid of all of their stuff before they go under. I couldn't resist and placed an order so I hope it shows up.
Cadillac returns to racing and slot cars...new review of the Scalextric 1/32 Cadillac LMP Dams No3 car now posted..
Happy New Year!!! Hope everyone has a happy and safe 2001, the "new millennium" has begun for slot cars :)
For 2001, there is a revamped slot car classified ads system. This new system is more flexible and allows for photos to be included with the ads as well as a special feedback system.
I've been playing around a bit with The Sims CDROM game I got this past Christmas for the computer. Too bad there isn't a road race set included in the game but there is a train set or two.
Thanks for visiting,
