Test Drive Observations:

Here is a a new release from Ninco's 1/32 classic series.  They released their nice Porsche 356-A Coupe with a new paint scheme.  I was very surprised with this car.  I didn't expect much out of it since it has the NC1 motor and no traction magnet.  It does not really matter to me if it does have a magnet or not when racing these slot cars.  The magnet does allow for faster lap times but they also result in different handling characteristics.  In any event, let's see how this 356-A Coupe did.

The Ninco Porsche 356-A Coupe is very well done with excellent detailing on the body right down to the wheels.  The chassis does not have any magnet but does carry sticky rubber lined tires.  The NC1 motor is great for the car and exactly matches the car in power and speed.  The NC1 pulled the car down the straights without even hitting the top end.  I think the absence of a traction magnet and the lightweight of the car itself gives the NC1 motor some extra power down the track.  The car is great when going on the straights.  The braking is reasonable when going into the turns without much trouble leaving off the throttle at the last minute.  The only consequence is that without the traction magnet to hold the car on the curves, you will need to slow-down a bit sooner than expected.

The handling of the car around the curves isn't all that great with this car since the body has a bit higher center of gravity.  With experimenting with weight on the chassis, you can possibly help with lowing the center of gravity on the car.  I would say that this car does handle good for it's type and give it a recommended rating for interested individuals.

I know the track times isn't the best compared to other cars with magnets but the car is great if you wish to compete with other vintage style cars without magnets.  The NC1 motor is fast for this model and the tires stick very well without picking up too much dirt while racing.  The second part of this review deals with upgrading the car with the Parma 1/32 Excalibur chassis.

Now Comes the Parma Excalibur 1/32 Chassis Upgrade

Parma Excalibur 1/32 Chassis Upgrade Kit
The Parma Excalibur 1/32 Chassis upgrade kit includes a brass chassis with hardware to convert your Ninco to a brass chassis.  You can use this chassis with other 1/32 scale bodies but you would need to purchase a motor, Ninco motor mount, front and rear axle assemblies plus a guide flag.

You receive plastic body posts which you trim to fit the body you wish to mount on the chassis.  The chassis includes brass bushings for the rear axle.  You need to take the motor mount and motor from a Ninco chassis.  You can use the special Ninco motor mount brackets to mount a Scalextric or SCX motor in the chassis.  It does come with many optional front wheel axle positions and adjustable front chassis guide flag piece.  The included instruction booklet tells you how to assemble the chassis and mount it to your 1/32 scale slot car body.

Newsflash!!!  This chassis does not fit the shorter wheelbase bodies such as this one.  The chassis itself is too long and even the shortest position on the chassis for the front wheels will not work.  It will only fit certain 1/32 scale bodies but not all of them.  It would have been nice for the chassis to have a sliding front end to adjust to the smaller and longer wheelbase bodies out there instead of the axle positions.

I am planning on getting another Ninco 1/32 slot car to do a review on and test with the Excalibur chassis upgrade.
