I am not really up on the current sports cars they have out in the various series unless they are Chevrolets or Fords. They just put SpeedVision on cable here so I got to sit down and watch some of these races. Anyway, here is some information on the real aka 1/1 scale Lister Storm Racer. You can also go to their official site for more info on their racer. The engine is a V12 producing close to 560 horsepower and 520 pounds of torque. There is a 6 speed manual transmission and the Body is made out of carbon fiber. There is a lot of stuff to this race car :)
Taking at look at the gallery on their site and comparing it to this FLY slot car, you can see that FLY did a ton of research in creating this new body style. They got the details down pat and some. Right down to a little scale antenna on the roof of the car. This is a first to be detailed on a current issue 1/32 slot car from anyone - WOW! The body is the same high quality as you can expect from FLY and I couldn't really find any faults with it. You even get a decent cockpit with driver figure. This area is even detailed better than stuff from Ninco.
With the front-engine and rear drive set-up, I was expecting some chassis noise and for the performance to be similar to other FLY cars. The chassis design is inline with a drive-shaft to the rear wheels. You get the "classic" FLY slicks with sidewall lettering similar to what they have done on their previous cars, plus you also get the neodymium traction magnet to help keep the car planted to the track. Driving it around my Carrera layout, proved to be another fun driving experience. The Lister Storm hooks up to the track with ease and likes to boogie down the straights and take the curves with ease. There is very little noise coming from this car as compared to the FLY Vipers so this is another plus for the car. The slicks and magnet keeps the car in check with the track. You do need to slow down for the curves but it has excellent braking ability so you can wind it out down the straights and leave off in time for the curves. There is always the occasional oversteer or understeer but not to be concerned about. The car will not spin out or jump the slot unless you put the pedal to the metal at the wrong moments so I find it a very nice car to drive. Once you take a test drive with the car finding out where you can punch it and where to leave off, you will bring yourself to just go through the motions. There is no need to have to drive the car. It will float around the curves for you and go down the straights with horsepower.
I am giving this car a 5 out of 5 Slot Car Garage Best Buy rating because of the excellent detail FLY has done on the car, the chassis design which allows for independent rotating front wheels - traction magnet - high traction slicks, and the excellent fit and finish. A highly recommended piece for your 1/32 slot car stable - buy one today from Rad Trax - www.radtrax.com
