This is another great offering from FLY for their 1/32 Classic series. These 1/32 slot cars are highly detailed works of art!!! |
These reviews are done on my custom Carrera 1/24 Exclusiv road course layout.

Test Drive Observations:
FLY outdid itself for it's Classic series with this Porsche 917K. The body is highly detailed and the quality is top notch. They even included a tire and not a piece of plastic for the spare located in the rear section of the car. The chassis is the standard FLY sidewinder design and features a powerful Mabuchi S motor. Overall this is a great and highly detailed car for your 1/32 slot car collection.
Taking the car around the course I found out that the tail is pretty light and wants to fishtail when you go full throttle. Because of this causing a minor wreck or two, my ten lap sprint times would have been a little better. Handling is top notch down the straights and around the curves. You feel like you are in control when taking it around the course. I presume the small wings on the tail of the car helps a bit in handling. They are planning to release more versions of the 917 so these wings will be removed later.
Inspecting the car reveals independent front wheels up front. These are ok as long as you have the braid correctly configured or you will have the front end hop. I fixed the braid and that corrected the front end hob right away. The car has wide silicone type sticky rubber tires in the rear which holds it pretty good to the track. I really like the handling around the various curves and the good acceleration it gets down the long straight. I really love this car. It gets 4 out of 5 tires, not the best but close to it. I would have liked for it not to have the fishtailing so that's why it's not a SCG Best Buy. Still gets 4 out of 5 tires and is highly recommended especially over the SCX Vintage-Reissue 917 Porsche. This FLY Porsche 917K will definitely beat the pants off the SCX 917 Reissue hands down even if you would give the SCX a traction magnet.
Overall this is a well executed car from the high quality fit and finish to the good handling chassis. Get one today to race against some Lola T-70s and Ferraris.
Slot Car Garage Review Rating: 4 out of 5 tires!!!
