It's fun and exciting for the slot car world with Carrera releasing these special chrome limited editions of their standard slot cars.  Grab one while you can, they are sharp looking in shiny chrome!!!

Test Drive Observations:

I think it is great that Carrera is doing these chrome limited edition slot cars with chrome bodies, they look sharp!  This time Carrera has chromed their Mercedes 300SLR slot car to create this limited edition.  The body is nicely chromed in a shiny finish and I couldn't really find no markings on it or bad spots.  They did a great job and love detail on it.

The Mercedes has good speed down the straights but it likes to fishtail (oversteer) any opportunity it has. You will need to also take care when punching the throttle even going down the straights because it will tend to whip the backend around.  So you might think the car is a little hard to control but the main problem comes when you try to push this 300 SLR a bit for more speed.  You will really need to watch the curves, basically taking it easy, while carefully hammering it down the long straight. The other problem this has is poor brakes, you need to watch when slowing down for the curves.  If you ease a bit on the throttle and take it easy around the curves, you can get it going but it won't be a speed demon.  Maybe adding silicones or lightly sanding the tires will help in the handling department to curve the oversteer (fish tailing) on the car but all in all it is a nice limited edition with chrome body and decent chassis.  Not the best but a nice collector's piece :)

This slot car gets a 4 out of 5 tires rating.  A better rating than the standard 300 SLR since it is in a more limited edition plus the chrome body really shows it off.  It might be the best handling or fastest slot car out there but at least it looks good and makes a nice 1/32 slot car collector's piece without having to dish out big bucks for it.  A nice little slot car for collecting, racing if you do some aftermarket tune-ups for better handling.
