1/32 Proteus Heuliez PREGUNTA

An awesome looking 1/32 scale slot car replica of this showcar by Proteus of the Heuliez Pregunta.  This one is great looking inside and out but performs well on the track too.

These reviews are done on my custom Carrera 1/24 Exclusiv road course layout.

Test Drive Observations:

This is a very unique 1/32 slot car done by Proteus www.slotproteus.es :)  In Spanish PREGUNTA means "question". The real car was an original way of questioning the motor world to ask if it is aware of all of the HEULIEZ GROUP's abilities and possibilities, a European industrial reality.  Check this page about the Lamborghini Pregunta for more information and details about the real car.

proteusc.jpg (21981 bytes) The fit and finish on this 1/32 slot car is great inside and out.  We can a very nicely shaped and well proportioned body along with a functional chassis design with a sidewinder motor and gear arrangement.  The drive-train uses metal strips to deliver the power to the motor making way for a clean chassis design without wires getting in the way or breaking off.  The guide flag has the dull braid design similar to the way the SCX guide flags are designed.  The braid was wide and long enough that I didn't need to widen them out to use on the Carrera 1/24 track.

We have wide tires on this car on the rear with tread design.  The tires have a tread design but they are still very sticky.  These are some kind of rubber but almost as sticky as silicones.  I could imagine what silicone slicks would do for this car.  The car has a good well-balanced chassis design and magnet system.  With most strong and fast magnet cars, you really have to be careful with it.  It grips the track well but has times when it will get out of hand to break loose from the course mostly oversteering (fishtailing) heading into turns.

The car itself is not as fast as the Cartrix BMW Roadster I have nor is it as fun to drive.  Don't get me wrong.  This is one fast car but it's not as fast as the Cartrix BMW.  The BMW sticks like glue all around the track and drives well around the course.  This Proteus slot car is fast and handles very well but would need some better tires most likely silicone slicks to help it get within range of the Cartrix BMW.  I still like it, the car is very fast and keeps up with the track course.  You do have to watch around curves and straights when you floor it since it likes to fish tail with the magnet coming loose from the track rails.

As you can tell from the photos above, the car is well detailed inside and out.  There is NO driver figure but you can easily modify one from FLY or Ninco to pop in there for some fun.  It is fine with me if there isn't a driver but some people like to have someone behind the wheel or it will look like a "ghost" car.

The car is getting a four out of five tires rating for it's smooth running chassis and excellent fit and finish on the body plus a great job detailed this car from looking at the photos of the real thing.  The bonus goes to giving us detailed tires that grip as well but would mostly likely help the car if they would be silicone slicks but I think the aftermarket will take care of that.  The only problem I have is the handling.  Again with a car this great, they could have make it stick a little bit better to the track.  It drives well but for the looks of it, the car should beat a Cartrix :)  The price is another thing but according to Jon at RadTrax, they should be importing them in and selling them for under $50 to $60 each.  A good price but don't expect it to outrun your fastest car.  The car will probably kick ass with some FLY cars and Ninco.  So grab it since it is unique and put a set of silicones on the rear if you want to get some more speed and better handling out of it.  Overall, a well thought-out and designed 1/32 slot car.  Another great piece, now if they only do some home set cars in 1/24 scale like this!!!
