If you are looking for a slot car simulator for your personal computer, this game is it. This one is much better designed than the later one put out by Mattel. |
This was one of the first Slot Car Games designed for the Personal Computer. It was produced by ToysByPhil on a more independent effort than say a game company deciding on doing one for profit. Many of us had already downloaded a demo of his game and many have also purchased a CD-ROM through him as well. Things had moved along and to get better distribution, he had made a deal with Valu-Soft. From running this game and his old one, except for a few tweaks here and there it is basically the same great game.
When
deciding on producing a slot car game for the personal computer, you want
something to realistically simulate slot car racing but not something too simple
like Hot Wheels Slot Car Racing or too complex like Need For Speed. This
one hit the nail on the head. You get an easy to use controller layout on
your keyboard for either racing against the computer or a friend sitting beside
you. You can also race yourself by using the two buttons. Next thing
is the neat little track editor. It's easy to use, you just lay the track
down using the various buttons for straights or two types of curves. You
have the ability to change the banking, elevation, degree, etc. of all track
pieces so you can design a rather elaborate track. There is no plain two
pieces of track here plus you can modify the many tracks included or design /
save as many as you want.
To play this game: you will need at least a 200mhz processor, Windows 95/98/Me, a Direct 3D compatible video graphics card, and at least 32mb of RAM. I haven't tried this on the minimum system but it worked fine on my old Celeron 400mhz machine and with my new powerhouse it runs great! Most computers should be able to run this game without trouble if you meet the minimum requirements.
Playing
the game gives you many different options such as viewing the cars overhead,
behind, or at a point above the track similar to what you would see when slot
racing in real life. You can run the game in split-screen mode or in
full-screen mode for your own car. Racing against the computer is fun.
The cars do slide around the curves and if you take them too quickly you will
spin and fly off realistically. It's great to see something done so well
for a good price. Can't believe Hot Wheels Slot Car Racing is so bad
compared to 3D Slot Car Racing. This game just shines! I love
it, it's fun - easy to use - has a neat track editor, many hours and hours of
fun. If you can't get to a slot car track but have a computer, buy this
game. It's a must have. You can play it on your computer and not
have to worry about setting up a track if you don't have time. There is no
substitute for real slot car racing but this is the closest you will get.
This one gets a 4 out of 5 tires rating from Slot Car Garage. It has great graphics, smooth animation, realistic simulation of slot car racing at home - HO scale, and had a great price. Only downside is the missing of more cars and more tracks plus options like demolition racing but still it's a great slot car game for the PC. Buy it now, highly recommended to everyone.
