Ninco 1/32 Callaway C12 #1 "Corvette" Item #50222 Features:

With all the modifications Callaway did to make this his own "super car", you have to look closely to see the C5 Corvette from Chevrolet under all those added parts. |
These reviews are done on my custom Carrera 1/24 Exclusiv road course layout.

Test Drive Observations:
I was very eager to get my hands on this Ninco Callaway C12 'Corvette' 1/32 scale slot car. These look awesome in their racing body work and was always a fan on those Callaway modified C4 body style Corvettes. Ninco went with their proven formula with this one. The Callaway C12 Super Car is based on the basic C5 Chevrolet Corvette platform but the resemblance stops there. New body work, reworked engine, modified suspension, interior, etc.
Inspecting the body work shows high quality work from Ninco with detailed graphics. The C12 looks close to the real one after checking out the car on the Callaway website. The body does not show extensive details such as drilled brake rotors, open grille-work, and other things but it does look very, very nice!!! The car will look great along side your Mercedes, Porsches, and Vipers. The interior features a standard interior plate with dash detail and driver but it's not up to par as FLY but overall it's presentable. Most people look at cars for their detailed bodies / interiors and just sit them on the shelf while others want something that looks nice but goes fast without worrying about the little stuff. It would be nice for them to do a street car metallic blue version.
The chassis arrangement is standard Ninco flare with an inline set-up and yes, the more powerful Ninco NC-2 Mabuchi motor rated at 18,100 rpm. These motors are better than the NC1 ones and should use them in most of their cars with the added torque and horsepower they give. We also get sticky slicks on the six-spoke wheels for traction with the now common neodymium traction magnet. The chassis holds up well and is pretty quiet for the most part.
Remembering when I tried a Ninco AC Cobra and Mercedes CLK with the NC2 motor, I figured this one would perform about the same. Test driving the car revealed nice grippy slicks with a smooth powerband. You will experience some sliding of the back end (oversteer / fishtailing) causing the car to deslot only if you push it too hard. Yes, it will slide but the average trip around the track keeps the car planted on all fours. A few things such as pushing it hard to win a race will find you trying to keep it from fishtailing but it only might flip once in awhile not as common as others. Overall, it is a very nice car but don't expect it to keep up with the faster FLY cars.
This one here gets another one of my four out of five tires ratings because of the great job Ninco did on the body and car itself but falls a bit in the interior detailing department and again the magnet cars keep them planted but you will need to drive the car for those fastest lap times. This is not a car you will zip around the track in with ease but will still provide a nice car to add to your racing stable. Hey, it's a Callaway C12 Corvette and this is way much cheaper than trying to buy the real thing :)
Slot Car Garage Review Rating: 4 out of 5 tires
