As they say, fads come and go. Does Pink-Kar really has a hit here with their line-up of 1/32 slot car Volkswagen Beetles? Does the Bug really stop here? |
These reviews are done on my custom Carrera 1/24 Exclusiv road course layout.

Test Drive Observations:
This 1/32 slot car from Pink-Kar is similar to the VW Bug I reviewed earlier from them so you can read that review as well for an idea on how these run. Here is an example of a company using their tooling to help increase their profits and sales from the tooling they poured their money into. You can see that FLY has tons of their Vipers in every color you can dream of but they never did a street version Viper Roadster in Red which they should do. Well, enough of that - let's get back to this Pink-Kar VW Bug. They finally got the picture and released their new version in a nice clear plastic display case instead of a cardboard type box.
Looking at the body: The car is highly detailed with chrome all around with some parts detailed painted - close to FLY standards - good job!!! This version has POLIZEI markings on the doors, a working blue light, and a nice two-tone paint job for Police use. The interior features two people, a guy and a lady(!) which look ok from the outside of the car. This neat little car has a perfect cream maroon two tone paint job and cute little dog-dish chrome hub caps on the wheels. The big problem comes when comparing this to other 1/32 scale cars. I do not have a true VW Beetle to measure the car out but it looks too small to me when compared to the Scalextric New VW Beetle. This is the one main nitpick I have.
The roof light is neat but they should have used a capacitor system to keep it on one setting as it will glow as bright or dim compared to how fast you are running. The blue light can be a little annoying at times too but it's not too bad. Think of a neon blue light or a futuristic type light and this is what it looks like. The chassis uses the same design as the other VW bugs they made. I don't know exactly what they did with this design but it is way too top heavy for me. I can barely take it around the turns without tipping it over. It needs some wider tires or a wider stance to stabilize it. The motor does have plenty of power but the tires don't grip as well as the one I tested earlier, Maybe it was just me but I couldn't get this "Police" version to perform as good as the earlier bug. It is still ok but not all that good for all out racing.
Overall the car gets a 3 out of 5 tires rating because of mainly the speed problems and the stuff I talked about in the earlier version still applies here too. The fit and finish is good on this car from Pink-Kar so they might give FLY a run for it's money in the detail department soon if they do some unique cars. I would still recommend it to VW slot car enthusiasts but does not get a highly recommended rating. Still nice to have a cute little bug police car - I hope Scalextric decides to do something like this to their New VW Beetle Slot Car down the line :)
Slot Car Garage Review Rating: 3 out of 5 tires
