Wishes do come true!!!  Carrera is the first to produce a 1/32 muscle car for the new slot car market along with the companion 1965 Ford Mustang GT-350.

These reviews are done on my custom Carrera 1/24 Exclusiv road course layout.

Test Drive Observations:

Many people including me was wishing that someone would do some 1/32 scale muscle car or street car slot cars for the new home 1/32 scale market.  After thinking someone like FLY, Ninco or Scalextric would take the initiative, Carrera took the plunge and gives us two muscle (street) cars from the 1960s. The 1967 Corvette Stingray 427 and the 1965 Ford Mustang  GT-350.

Carrera prices are dropping now since they have a new distributor for the US plus they are becoming easier to find.  Prices for their 1/32 cars are rather reasonable now for people looking to get some more cars for their collection.  These street cars are much cheaper than buying the original 1/32 1965 Corvette from Revell or the 1/32 Ford Mustang from K&B / Aurora.  The 1967 Corvette Stingray was never modeled yet as a slot car until now.

The Carrera 1/32 chassis is the same as the ones under the other new cars with the chassis molded to fit the body.  It has the same Mabuchi S motor and adjustable traction magnet in the front.  The car has rubber tires with tread detail that look like street tires rather than slicks for the race track.  We will see how the chassis holds up on the Carrera course.

The body is well detailed and closely matches the real car.  The driver is detailed without no helmet but features sunglasses for that cool look.  He looks pretty good, like someone out for a cruise or a drag race with his 'Vette :)  It has chrome bumpers front and rear with other chrome details.  There is painted details such as the turn signals and brake lights - the license plate reads DISPLCMT :)  Overall the body looks great but the door handles and wiper blades look a little large but that's ok in my book.  It's a slot car not a model car kit.  Now, we get to burn some rubber.

Taking the car around the course at first reminded me a bit of the Mercedes 300 SLR that I tested.  After a few laps to get used to the car and warm it up a bit - the car turns out to be a good runner.  Yes, it does fishtail a bit (oversteers) when floored but not as much to bring the car out of the slot.  You can hang it out around the turns as well but remember it has the tendency to flip if pushed to it's limits but once you get used to the car, its great - I love it :)

The car might not be the fastest 1/32 car I own but it's fun to drive, it's not a chore to get this thing around the course.  The Mabuchi S motor is well suited for the car and the tires although treaded grip the track fairly well.  Like I said, you will have some oversteer but it reminds you of a muscle car pushing it's big block V8 through the paces.  The detailing is great, price is great, and handling is great for the type of car.  Carrera gets a 5 tires rating for taking the plunge and getting some 1/32 scale muscle cars or streets to the 1/32 market.  You must get one of these.  I hope Carrera comes out with some more muscle cars - maybe even some for 1/24 scale :)  In closing, the car isn't the fastest or the greatest in handling but the balance between the two is reasonable.  I highly recommended this car so much that it gets the Slot Car Garage Pick of the Year for 1/32 Scale!
